Retro Dodge Rumble Enters Late Alpha
Retro Dodge Rumble is now in late alpha, with its core 1v1 combat fully playable as development shifts toward balance, AI, polish and player testing.
Retro Dodge Rumble has reached late alpha.
What started as a university final-year project has grown into a competitive 1v1 dodgeball fighting game built around one simple idea: one ball, two Dodgers, and a constant battle for control of the exchange.
Instead of traditional fighting-game attacks, players throw, catch, dodge, crouch, jump, fake throws and use character-specific abilities to force mistakes and take back possession.
The Core Game Is Playable
The main gameplay loop is now fully playable, including:
- 1v1 dodgeball combat
- Catching and possession changes
- Normal and jump throws
- Fake throws
- Dodging, jumping and crouching
- Character-specific Tricks, Treats and Ultimates
- Local multiplayer
- AI opponents
- Online multiplayer
- Multiple arenas and game modes
- Progression, rankings and customization systems
The current roster features six Dodgers, each designed around a different approach to controlling the match.
What We’re Working On Now
Development is now becoming less about adding major systems and more about making the existing game better.
Current priorities include:
- improving opponent AI
- balancing Dodgers and abilities
- polishing UI and presentation
- improving audio and visual feedback
- testing the game with more players
- refining onboarding for new players
- preparing RDR for tournaments and public showcases
Built for Competition
The goal for Retro Dodge Rumble is simple:
Easy to understand. Hard to master.
A new player should be able to understand the basic rules quickly, while experienced players can learn matchups, timing, positioning, ability combinations and mind games over time.
With more public playtests and events coming, the next stage of development will focus heavily on how real players interact with the game.
Enter the Rumble
Retro Dodge Rumble is still growing, and player feedback will play a major role in what comes next.
Try the game, challenge someone, learn a Dodger and tell us what you think.
The Rumble is only getting started.
